High on Photography

Rain & Rain Drops - Darjeeling, September 2014
My experience with the camera began when I was around 10 years old. For me a photograph is like a memento, a peek into the past, a piece of memory for me to hold and cherish.

I used to browse through my uncle's National Geographic Magazine collections. It was a burst of colour and culture. The photographs were captured it in its ordinary glory but when looked back at - stirred up a powerful nostalgia of life.

From a compact Kodak point and shoot to a hefty yet delicate -Nikon FM10 - the journey has been quite interesting and progressive. During college days I went on field trips to Vedanthangal, Pondicherry, Gangtok, Delhi, Kolkata and many other places. During these travels I did not have a camera of my own. Photojournalism and travel photography became an area of interest after being on these trips and wanting to capture my travel memories.
My favorite photographer is Steve McCurry, I came to know of his work when I first saw those shocked green eyes of the refugee girl whom he had photographed  in her war torn Afghanistan.  I admired his skills as a photographer the day I began exploring his photographs and his many journeys across the world. Many years ago while randomly skimming channels I came face to face with Sharbat Gula, the refugee girl whom Steve had photographed, found again and photographed by my favourite photographer.

I wanted to click photographers as I am inspired by life and the many small moments which only my eyes can see. I am yet to print my pics, all I do is randomly upload them on Insta or FB and be satisfied with the likes and comments I get.  I don't know if I could do something great or tell a great story like Steve does but I truly wish I could tell the human story through my photographs.
